EBSCOhost Research Databases: Your Research Assistant

Course Description

This training session will include:

  • an overview of over 25 databases (see partial listing below) found in EBSCOhost
  • demonstrations of basic, advanced, and visual search methods, publication searches, and using cited references
  • discussion of content retrieval options
  • setting up alert systems to make research easier

KDLA is offering an overview of "EBSCOhost Research Databases." EBSCOhost provides a broad array of subject areas in over 25 databases including:

  • Academic Search Premier database features biology, chemistry, engineering, physics, psychology, and religion & theology
  • Business Source Premier database is the industry’s most used business research database with full text journals back to 1965 and market research reports, industry reports, country reports, and company profiles
  • CINAHL Plus with Full Text is the online source for full text nursing and allied health journals with over 560 journals back to 1937 and legal cases, clinical innovations, critical paths, drug records, research instruments and clinical trials.
  • Health Source: Nursing / Academic Edition with nearly 550 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines plus the Lexi-PAL Drug Guide.
  • Medline provides authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, and much more from the National Library of Medicine.
  • Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection with nearly 575 full text publications covers topics such as emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry & psychology, mental processes, anthropology and observational and experimental methods.
  • PsychINFO from the American Psychological Association (APA) with nearly 2.4 million citations and summaries of scholarly journal articles, book chapters, books, and dissertations all in psychology and related disciplines, dating as far back as the 1800s.
  • Sociology Collection offers information in all areas of sociology, including social behavior, human tendencies, interaction, relationships, community development, culture and social structure.
  • ERIC the Educational Resource Information Center, contains more than 1,194,000 records and links to more than 100,000 full text documents on education topics.
  • Teacher Reference Center provides indexing and abstracts for more than 270 of the most popular teacher and administrator journals and magazines to assist professional educators.

KDLA offers these courses free to Kentucky State Employees.

Certificates of Training will be emailed to you following the session.

Delivery Method:

These hour long classes will be conducted online with iLinc web conferencing technology. Class participants will need access to the Internet and a telephone.
