The commitment
of KLTA is to promote public library services, provide
information for trustees, and advance the cause of public
libraries in the legislature. Legislatures listen to
their local constituents and local trustees provide
that vital link between state government and the local
library. As a member of a state organization, you receive
information that helps you remain an effective library
board trustee.
The
goals
of KLTA are to:
It is easy
sometimes to go out on your own to help your own library
but with an organization, needs can be determined and
goals set for all libraries. If you are working alone
you have few outside resources but with a state organization,
you have many resources to contact for information and
help.
Trustees
are important members of their communities. People listen
when they speak and we need the voices of all Trustees
to speak for better public library services and to generally
advance the cause of libraries across the state.
KLTA is committed
to bringing information to Trustees as they work to
make their library an asset to their community. Trustees
are not professional librarians but we are called to
make decisions that directly relate to the existence
of our libraries. We all need help and that is why KLTA
is the organization trustees should join.
KLTA has
a state board with a representative from each region.
The regions and the current state board members are
listed. Perhaps you would like to represent your region.
We need everyone's help as a local trustee member of
KLTA and when vacancies occur, to serve on the state
board.
